The Mediation Effect of Mental Health on the Relationship between Job Stress and Happiness of Social Workers in Mental Health Facilities

Abstract

This research is to examine whether mental health mediates the impact of job stress on happiness of social workers serving in the mental health facilities. Survey was carried out among 323 social workers employed in the mental health facilities in region J including mental hospitals, mental care facilities or rehabilitation facilities, analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, correlation & hierarchical regression methods and Sobel Test was applied to verify the mediation effect. According to the results, first, job stress appeared to be significantly positive on the relationship between mental health and happiness of social workers. Second, mental health was significantly positive to the happiness of social workers. Finally, mental health completely mediated the impact of job stress on the happiness of social workers. Based upon these results, we have provided a proposition to increase mental health and happiness of social workers while reducing the job stress.
